Pirates, captain and mermaids

Price: from €350
Duration: ~ 5 hours
Group size: up to 12 people

Hike through the most picturesque surroundings of Aukstaitija national park, try out some local food and get back to the campsite by a wooden boat.

First part of the route will lead us through forest paths covered by moss until we reach the famous Asalnai pine tree. Locals call it THE QUEEN and its branches are reaching the clouds. Surrounded by water, it grows in a peninsula, where one side usually has very calm water and the other is always wavy. On hot summer days it‘s possible to swim through the narrowest part of that peninsula. We will decide on the spot whether to do it or not. We will continue hiking towards Meironys – a little village where locals used to raise cows. They also used to transfer herds through water to another shore and leave them there for the summer. After passing Meironys, we will step into a botanical route. Here you will find one of the oldest water springs in Lithuania called Tarama. Moreover, the botanical route is rich in flora and fauna, which you will surely notice yourself.

Second part of this hike leads into a more active village, called Paluse, where we will be visiting an old wooden church (which used to be printed on old Lithuanian currency notes) and having lunch at Pirate bar. They serve really nice food and are well known for smoked fish. After having a nice break here, we will be heading to a boathouse on the shore of Lusiai lake. Here a captain will introduce himself and take us on a lovely cruise back to the campsite. After about 40 minutes we will reach Asalnai lake, pass the peninsula called „Memes ragas“ and arrive at Asalnai campsite.
