Mythical journey to the home of bees

Price: from €240
Duration: 5 – 6 hours
Group size: from 8 people

Hike through the most picturesque surroundings of Aukstaitija national park and get a comfy ride back by minibus to Asalnai campsite.

This journey starts in Puziniskis village, where an old oak tree shares its wisdom with passengers. Hiking a bit further and deeper into the forest from it we will find Velniukstis (meaning “imp”) lake. There is a hidden story behind that name, of course, which we might tell you during the hike.

We will then visit a hill called Ladakalnis (an extraordinary monument of nature). We will tell you a story how and why this name was given to it. The hill itself is considered as the central part of Aukstaitija national park. From here you can see 6 different lakes and a beautiful panoramic view.

Hiking route goes through the hill fort of Šiliniškis where on one side you can find Ladakalnis and the famous mound of Ginuciai on the other side. Locals call it „The back of a sleepy dragon“. We will be climbing up to Siliniskiai tower to see ANP from high above.

Our adventure will lead us to the oldest village of ANP – Stripeikiai. It was first mentioned back in the 1357. The locals used to give a donation to the bishop of Vilnius of honey and bee-wax, so it was one of and a very important reason why a beekeeping museum was found here. Settled in an old homestead, museum connects old and the new worlds together: you can hear bees in the hives and visit interactive exhibitions in the old buildings.

No matter old or young, every visitor will find a lot of things to do here. The territory itself is very peaceful, so you will return back well rested.

After visiting the museum, you will get a ride back to Asalnai campsite. We can stop by at Ginuciai water mill for a refreshing dip (on demand).
